Similar to the Philadelphia 76ers and Joel Embiid, the Golden State Warriors are still trying to extract the most out of their aging star in Stephen Curry. This season, they missed out on a postseason spot, which casts doubt on how tenable their competitive window remains. However, with a player as good as the four-time NBA champion, there is no other choice for them than to try to remain relevant in the Western Conference.
That, however, will require Golden State to make hard concessions when building the roster. Case in point? Look no further than Quinten Post, who could very well be on his way out of San Francisco this summer as the Warriors aim to prioritize re-signing Kristaps Porzingis and expect to get former 76ers big man Al Horford back due to his player option.
Post, who was drafted with the 52nd overall pick just two years ago, has been a positive addition to the Warriors given his draft standing. However, his role figures to keep declining as the Warriors boast two veteran options who offer far more secure production in Porzingis and Horford, who have both already won a championship in Boston. As such, he is probably the most expendable option of the three.
The 76ers could target Quinten Post in free agency as the Warriors navigate their big man dilemma
The 76ers will once again be on the hunt for more help at center this offseason, but as mentioned before, what this team needs is more variance at the position. As such, it would be best if they run after a stretch big this time around, and Post definitely fits the bill as someone who can bang down low while being a respectable shooter from the three-point line.
Post shot just 33.6 percent from beyond the arc this season, but he shot 40.8 percent in his rookie campaign. He is more of a "set" shooter, but that will be more than enough for this team. People have already seen the benefits of Andre Drummond starting to shoot (and make) threes, so having a more natural shooter like Post fill that role will benefit them greatly.
The 76ers do not have a lot of financial ammo this summer, but Quinten Post is someone that won't make them break the bank to acquire. Even better, he is only 26 years old, so he is already a much younger option they can go with if they let Andre Drummond go.
