The Philadelphia 76ers are still in the active pursuit of LeBron James, and to that effect, they have just gotten the most revealing update yet. According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the superstar's camp is looking at the team's recruitment pitch "very seriously," noting that they are part of what is essentially a three-man race for the 22-time All-Star.
The fact that the 76ers are one of the three teams that are most likely going to end up as LeBron's landing spot is obviously a huge update that should keep the front office invigorated. After all, this technically started out as a free-for-all, and Philly was not exactly dealing with other ball clubs which only registered passive interest in the King.

"I look at it, when I talk to teams now, as kind of a hierarchy of Cleveland, Miami, Philadelphia."pic.twitter.com/MNT7JSKSBa
Philadelphia, now armed with a very formidable quartet consisting of Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown, and VJ Edgecombe, does make for a tempting destination for James. After all, a shot at a fifth ring is what he is prioritizing at this juncture. His retirement is getting closer and his actuations do reflect that next season could be the final one in his legendary tale.
The 76ers just got a massive boost in their free agency pursuit of LeBron James
Shams noted that according to his sources, the hierarchy right now is Cleveland, Miami, then Philly. Among those teams, the 76ers are the only team which he had not played for previously, which is also a good sign in and of itself. After all, the Cavaliers and the Heat are also favorites in the race thanks to them having already played house to the King in the past, winning a championship with him leading them.
Mike Gansey and his crew have done a stellar job to kickstart the offseason, and getting into this position means that there is no going back now. In all fairness, this is a free agency and not a trade pursuit, and James' camp had already strongly signaled that money will not be a determining factor for the superstar in deciding where he will take his talents to.
At this point, this race remains a tight one and probably a steep climb given the two other teams which are reportedly still part of the bidding war for LeBron James. But if there is one undeniably positive takeaway from this news bit, it is that the 76ers are no longer just looking at a pipe dream, but an actual goal within reach.
