The Philadelphia 76ers have made some puzzling moves this offseason, but they have had their fair share of tremendous maneuvers as well. And without a lot of people noticing, they just pulled off another one.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the 76ers are signing forward Dominick Barlow to a two-way contract, taking a flier on the 22-year-old big man who previously played for the San Antonio Spurs and just last season, with the Atlanta Hawks.
Barlow did not see a lot of court time with the Spurs and the Hawks in his first three years in the league, but this is a good addition for the 76ers. Two-way deals are often given out to young players looking to make the big leap, and Barlow definitely has what it takes to contribute to the 76ers thanks to his desirable skill set as a big man.
The 76ers executed another bargain with Dominick Barlow
Barlow was one of the most productive players in the G-League during his stint with the Austin Spurs, and while that has not yet led to him netting a significant role, there is a lot to like with his game.
While he is definitely undersized when trotted out as a center, Barlow has a lot of bounce in him thanks to his mobility and athleticism. His three-point shot has not yet come along, but there is still ample time to develop that part of his game, especially since he already has a very workable shooting stroke to begin with.
With Jabari Walker already in the fold, adding Barlow into the mix only fortifies a position that has long been one of the biggest weaknesses of the 76ers, which has been exacerbated by the departure of Guerschon Yabusele in free agency.
At best, this could end up being another huge bargain by the Philadelphia 76ers, which have pulled off a slew of massive discounts in recent years with the likes of Kelly Oubre Jr., Jabari Walker, and now, possibly Dominick Barlow.
