76ers just saw their nightmare Giannis scenario gain real momentum

Well, this sucks for the 76ers.

The Philadelphia 76ers are not exactly a team to watch out for in the highly contested Giannis Antetokounmpo bidding war, but like most ball clubs in the league, they do have an interest in what could unfold on that front. After all, his landing spot could very well determine the landscape of the Eastern Conference moving forward.

As such, with them not being part of the actual loop of suitors for the two-time MVP, all the 76ers can do is hope for Giannis to get out of the East. Unfortunately, that has become an increasingly unlikely outcome in keeping with the latest trade rumors. In a recent release for The Stein Line, NBA insider Jake Fischer bared that the superstar's most preferred landing spot is still Miami, although he still has Boston in his mind as a possible destination.

Obviously, the Heat and Celtics are big rivals for the 76ers. Either of those teams getting their hands on someone like Giannis, who was the clear-cut MVP contender early this season before injuries derailed his campaign, would be a nightmare scenario for Philly.

The 76ers will not like what latest trade rumors say about Giannis

The Heat did not even get to sneak into the playoffs this year, while the Celtics blew a 3-1 lead to the 76ers in the first round. For now, Philly has a leg up on those teams, but winning the Antetokounmpo sweepstakes would basically sufficient to flip that dynamic around with utmost ease.

But for now, the strong indication is that Giannis will most likely remain in the East. A couple of teams from the Western Conference, the Warriors and Trail Blazers, showed strong interest in landing the superstar, but it seems like there has been little traction on those ends. The Heat are certainly upping their game, and the Celtics cannot be ruled out as well give how aggressive their front office can get.

Giannis moving to the Western Conference would only reinforce the overall talent gap between the West and the East, but the 76ers do not mind that at all. Their immediate concern is maximizing their chances to win, and if the Greek Freak reinforces one of their biggest adversaries, that would constitute a major hurdle for them to clear.

Obviously, this matter is well outside the 76ers' control, but with talks seemingly already intensifying at this very minute, all they can do is hope that a supervening event trasnpires and some team from the West snags him instead.
