If he doesn't find a way to end Philadelphia's 43-year trophy drought this season, his role as head coach will become untenable.

Championship experience, versatility, energy, and devastating scoring -- the Philadelphia 76ers have arguably the most exciting roster in the Eastern Conference. Each of the Sixers' rivals has found a way to improve this offseason, but not at this scale and not with this much publicity. LeBron James' arrival only draws more attention to the outstanding moves that the Sixers have made this summer.
When Mike Gansey sanctioned the trade for Jaylen Brown while offloading the ludicrous Paul George contract, the expectation began to shift in Philadelphia. Nick Nurse finally acquired a trustworthy star who can play night in and night out and, most importantly, knows how to win at the highest level. LeBron's acquisition is just another devastating weapon in Nurse's arsenal.
The questions surrounding Philadelphia's roster have never been about talent; they have always centered around the health of its biggest stars and whether the options behind that player are capable of having a positive effect on games.
In the past, this has been far from the case. Daryl Morey's obsession with superstar quality over sufficient depth was the saving grace for Nick Nurse's job security in recent times. Now, the 76ers head coach doesn't have those excuses to fall back on.

Being head coach of a roster that boasts LeBron James, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown, and VJ Edgecombe should be defined as a blessing, but there will be no flexibility for failure. And while this squad looks elite on paper, there are going to be teething issues that Nick Nurse is going to have to solve quickly.
If fans weren't aware, LeBron James has an ego. Look at the fanfare the 41-year-old has just manufactured in order to announce his final career move. Yes, this is not prime LeBron, but it is hard to believe he is going to accept being another number in the rotation. He still wants to extend his individual legacy.
On the other hand, Jaylen Brown is in his prime and ready to embark on his villain arc. The 2024 NBA Finals MVP wants to make the Boston Celtics rue the day they decided to put a player of his stature on the trading block. Brown isn't going to take a backseat on this journey. He will want to prove to any doubters that he can be the face of a franchise.
Nobody is going to feel sorry for Nick Nurse in this situation. He now has the honor of coaching arguably the greatest player of all time, LeBron James, while still having stars like Jaylen Brown and Joel Embiid to help lead a championship charge. However, if this ideology bursts into flames and crashes spectacularly, then Nurse's role at the Philadelphia 76ers will probably cease to exist.
