The 2025 NBA Draft is just a few weeks away, and for the Philadelphia 76ers, that will mark the start of what should be a very active offseason for the franchise. The front office, after all, will be eager to prove that last year’s finish was a mere aberration, and that the team remains laser-focused on bringing a championship to the city after a very long time.
For now, the 76ers are still on the process of evaluating their options, which they have a lot of. The team is in a great position come June 25 to either make a solid selection, or to move down in or out of the draft with a trade that will allow them to derive the maximum benefit possible from their own prized pick.
So far, the 76ers have been mostly linked to two names for the third overall selection — Ace Bailey and VJ Edgecombe. Both players have strong cases to land in Philly, yet the team will have no other choice but to zero in on an actual prospect sooner than later.

However, it seems like the 76ers are keeping an open mind about how they could go about things on draft night. While they could very well move that pick for a more proven commodity, all signs point to the team actually making the selection at No. 3.
But inasmuch as Bailey and Edgecombe are the favorites to end up in Philadelphia, there are two other prospects tossed around the team as of late, signifying that the 76ers’ decision does not presuppose a mere two-man race after all.
Reports have surfaced as of late, positing that the 76ers are also considering Tre Johnson and Khaman Maluach at No. 3. It appears that the team is casting a wider net this time around, which is a good sign about the front office’s willingness to go beyond mere due diligence and actually weigh their options without necessarily conforming to popular belief.
Both Johnson and Maluach are expected to end up in high lottery positions, although at present, it is unlikely that the 76ers will pass up on the tremendous upside that Bailey offers and the NBA-ready skill set that Edgecombe touts.
Nevertheless, this is a positive development for the Philadelphia 76ers — a franchise with entrenched hasty tendencies, especially during the draft. Hopefully, this becomes the trend moving forward with the 2025 NBA Draft coming up shortly.
