Thus, the popular notion is that VJ Edgecombe, the least decorated of their stars, might be the best fifth option the league has ever seen. However, that might actually be false, given that The King could take on that mantle himself.
Yes, you read that right –– LeBron, who is now expected to take on the main playmaking load on the 76ers, might actually be the last option on the projected starting lineup for Philly. While that is a daring proposition to endorse, it is simply a sensible design given how the roster is constructed. If anything, that is an ideal dynamic that could help the coaching staff fully maximize the talent level they have.
The fifth option on the 76ers might be LeBron James, not VJ Edgecombe
James averaged just 20.9 points this past season, tying his career-low in scoring from his rookie campaign more than a couple of decades ago. Well, the superstar could even see his scoring average further dwindle with the 76ers, although that is now something that will necessarily be prejudicial to their interests.
With the 76ers having as much interest in maximizing their championship chances as they do in bolstering their future, it makes a lot of sense for them to keep accommodating Edgecombe's rise as a two-way scoring force. It is easy to say that he should simply sacrifice for the betterment of the team, but there is room for the argument that me might actually help the squad more if he aims to register more markers in Year 2.
James no longer has any need to prove his scoring acumen. After all, he is already the all-time scoring leader in the NBA. And with the 76ers touting three other All-NBA players still in their primes aside from Edgecombe, it will definitely be more beneficial for the team to rely more on him as a table-setter on the offensive end.
Well, the fact that it is not a crazy thing to say that LeBron might be option No. 5 for the 76ers sums up how loaded they are. If that ends up being a reality, he would easily be the best fifth option the NBA has ever seen. He might be the most decorated player on the roster, but the team would be much better off having him function that way in order to give way for their other lethal scorers.
