3 76ers that need to be moved before the deadline amid lost season

The 76ers must act fast and make the most out of the trade season.

At this point, the Philadelphia 76ers have very little to play for. They are slotted well outside the postseason picture in the Eastern Conference, and they are continuously getting plagued by the ever-invasive injury bug. This, in addition to overall poor play on both ends of the court, are pretty telling signs about their shot at doing something meaningful this season.

The 76ers were initially pegged as a key player in the trade market, but that has not been the case so far. The team has made a grand total of zero moves so far, which is honestly shocking given their current situation and the deadline creeping in.

Given their plethora of roster issues, it is almost imperative for Philly to take on the role of sellers. They do have players that could perform better in other situations, and in return, the team can extract some assets of their outgoing ones. Here are three players the 76ers should move before the deadline that come to mind.

3. Andre Drummond

Andre Drummond would have been an important piece on this team thanks to Joel Embiid’s never-ending injury issues, but the 76ers do not have a lot of compelling reasons to stick with him as their backup center. There are a lot more attractive and younger options out there in the market, and even if the front office decides to postpone upgrading the position during the offseason, the case would remain the same.

2. Eric Gordon

The 76ers should start to completely pivot to building up the young players on the roster with the season practically already a lost one. Thus, aging players such as Eric Gordon, who has been nothing short of unplayable this season, should be a priority before the deadline. Naturally, phasing him out would open up more opportunities and court time for the likes of Ricky Council IV and Justin Edwards, among others.

1. Caleb Martin

Caleb Martin has vastly improved after a horrific start to the season in his first foray in Philly, but he remains far from what the 76ers expected him to be when they signed him in free agency. Nevertheless, he remains a cheap and attractive target for playoff teams, making him someone the 76ers can capitalize on to extract some assets, especially given his current dispensability following Justin Edwards’ string of impressive showings.
