76ers probably have a name circled for trade season and it’s not hard to guess

It’s not rocket science.

The Philadelphia 76ers are off to a hot start this season. That makes it a tad unreasonable to even be talking about trading guys right now, but given the course of business in the NBA, front offices are always on the lookout for who could be available for taking, as well as whom they want to dangle away from their respective ball clubs.

For the 76ers, both missives are at play. The team will always have a pathway to getting players from the outside who fit certain roles better. Having said that, the other part of the equation also rings a bell for the squad in that Philly likewise has some players who could be much better off playing elsewhere. Case in point? Look no further than Eric Gordon.

Now, Gordon is currently eligible to be traded, but even if the 76ers do try to trade him, it is probably not going to happen now. The unofficial trade season has not started yet with a huge chunk of players still ineligible to be traded, but once it does, the front office has every reason to try and ship him elsewhere.

The 76ers should trade Eric Gordon as soon as possible

So far, Eric Gordon has been an afterthought in Nick Nurse’s rotation. That is far from surprising, though, given that the veteran was largely signed to provide emergency shooting and another locker room presence.

However, with the 76ers shooting the lights out from three-point range to kick off their campaign, there has been no need for Gordon. But it in reality, even if it starts dipping, the team has very little need for what Gordon brings to the table.

Moreover, the locker room presence he is supposed to bring on this team is already filled by a very capable olden voice in the form of Kyle Lowry, who is already a quasi-assistant coach for the team this season.

With Gordon on a minimum deal, it should be easy shipping him to another team, either as a featured part of a swap or a mere additive. There are probably still some veteran playoff teams that would like to have an extra floor spacer, so even at his age, Gordon would not be a terrible addition.

But for the 76ers, they should trade the longtime veteran as soon as possible. They have a better need for the roster spot he is currently occupying, and he is not really bringing anything to the table at this point.
