The Philadelphia 76ers are clearly just winging everything as they desperately try to push through the end of the regular season. With their chances of making the postseason close to nil, fans do not have a lot of reasons to keep rooting for the team to rack up more wins, especially in account of a bigger and more meaningful goal staring at them right in the eye.
With this disastrous season already on the back burner, albeit constructively, the front office can now look forward to the rewards they will reap thanks to the sheer amount of losses they have unexpectedly tallied this year. Only 17 games remain on their slate, and with each passing game, their odds of getting a brighter future only increase.
The 76ers can look forward to netting a high lottery pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, which is widely reckoned to especially tout a pretty deep and talented class of rookies. Having said that, Philly is actually not in full control of its selection this year, meaning that they will have to push things to the extreme to play it safe.
The 76ers reach new heights following yet another loss
Given how this season has been, no kind of loss will really be newsworthy anymore for the 76ers. However, their most recent one is actually of such kind that should at least out fans on notice.
After their loss to the Raptors, Philadelphia is now sitting pretty with the third-worst record in the Eastern Conference and the fifth-worst in the entire association. As of writing, the 76ers are now tied with the Nets for the fifth-best odds to land the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 draft.
This is particularly worth mentioning because the 76ers, as you already know, will only get to keep their pick if it lands in the top-six. Otherwise, the Thunder will snag their selection as part of the Al Horford trade dump Philly executed way back in 2020.
Considering how good this year’s draft class has looked, it would obviously be a tremendous lift for the 76ers for both the short and long term to land a good prospect. Imagine them with, say, Cooper Flagg, Ace Bailey, or Dylan Harper.
Hopefully, the Philadelphia 76ers do the smart thing and try to prevent themselves from winning any more games moving forward. While a sight for sore eyes, losing now — where there is really no consequence to doing so — would give the franchise a much-needed headstart in improving the roster, especially with free agency not really being a viable option for them to make drastic changes.
