After some hazy developments, the Philadelphia 76ers finally received a much-needed information on Quentin Grimes with free agency about to open.

The 76ers front office is gearing up with their biggest priority after acing the 2025 NBA Draft — free agency. And atop their whiteboard on that front is coming to terms on a new deal with Grimes, who is a restricted free agent and will certainly command a lot of interest from teams with spending power this summer.

Coming off a breakout 28-game stint with the 76ers last season, Grimes’ price point instantly became a point of contention for many. Some people had him penciled in for a highly lucrative pay raise, but some expressed reservations due to his admittedly bloated numbers while operating in a setup where he was the head poncho out of necessity.

But now, the 76ers are looking at a tangible figure to hopefully keep him on the roster.

According to Marc Stein (subscription required), Grimes is expected to receive offers for a new deal with a starting salary north of $16 million annually.

All things considered, that is a pretty conservative prognosis as to what his market could look like from a financial standpoint. 16 million is role player money nowadays, but teams appear to be less trigger-happy when it comes to the free agent considering this figure.

Still, this is merely a ballpark estimate, and the 76ers could find themselves having to pump out much more money if another team comes in and offers a more lucrative contract, if not an outright poison pill, which are prevalent when it comes to restricted free agency.

Grimes is still only 25, and will certainly be an intriguing option for teams looking to win now without taking their chances on ruining their current timelines. He has shown that he has taken a huge leap as more than just a scorer, exhibiting ample growth as a secondary playmaker and off-ball threat in addition to his much better shot creation. That is precisely why the 76ers will most likely face stiff competition to keep his services from a pecuniary standpoint.

For now, the Philadelphia 76ers at least have a semblance of clarity as to how expensive the Quentin Grimes bidding war could get, and this could not be any more timely with free agency negotiations set to open in a few.
