The playoff race in both conferences is on its climactic point, with all teams in the postseason picture still jockeying for position to get a better footing in the standings. The Philadelphia 76ers are one of those teams, and despite the major setbacks they have faced as of late, they managed to stay afloat in the race and then some.
As of writing and entering their toughest test yet against the Thunder, the 76ers have 39 wins against 32 losses, which puts them in seventh place in the crowded East. Fortunately, the Magic and the Heat have each lost four straight outings, which is a huge relief for Philly in the standings as both team were considerably ahead of them record-wise not too long ago.
And with the 76ers set to start getting healthier bodies back, it appears like destiny is on their side for them to make their return to the playoffs after a one-year sabbatical. It is now up to them to solidify their grasp and do whatever it takes to claim a guaranteed playoff spot, which is well within their hands at this juncture.
The 76ers get some much-needed help in the standings thanks to their rivals
With just 11 games left on their schedule, the 76ers have the 11th-toughest slate remaining. After hosting Oklahoma City, they will still be seeing San Antonio and Detroit — two of the top-3 teams in the league. They will also be duking it out with Houston and Minnesota — two teams currently in a heated race for homecourt advantage in the West.
Their last remaining matchup with Miami will also have major implications in the standings. They are currently tied in their season series with both teams having won one game apiece, whih makes that contest all the more important. The Heat are at No. 9 for now, but they are only a game behind Philly for No. 7.
While those are five formidable teams they will be facing soon, the 76ers should be able to offer much more resistance given that their stars are set to make their respective returns soon. Paul George will be the first, as his suspension is set to end in a couple of days.
If there is one thing clear, the 76ers are in full control of their fate. The basketball gods seems to be favoring them to clinch a playoff spot, and it is now up to them to claim that and take ownership.
