To say that the Philadelphia 76ers are off to a bad start this season is a massive understatement. Sitting pretty with the league’s worst record thanks to an abysmal 1-7 win-loss card, there’s truly not a lot to smile about with the team as of the moment.

Sure, injuries have been the main suspect for all their struggles, but at this rate, it’s disingenuous to only toss their continuous losses up to missing bodies. At some point, the team has to be accountable for its poor play, and with their roster construction, banking on the injury bug to completely go away eventually is a gamble waiting to flop.

Still, there’s a reason why this team was widely penciled in as a title contender heading into the 2024-25 season. But to stop the bleeding — a thing of necessity given the large gap they must already close — the club cannot just rest on their laurels and wait for their talent to come save them with a little bit more luck from the health department.

The 76ers are rumored to be getting more aggressive on the trade market

Alas, the 76ers front office is seemingly starting to get more antsy and are now rumored to be willing to make a major direction shift. According to Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer, Philadelphia is now willing to part with draft capital to attach to players in order to sweeten the pot and lure in players that can help the team get out of its quicksand.

With a full armory, an argument can be made that the 76ers don’t really need to move the needle this early. After all, their offseason acquisitions, save for some complete flops as of the moment, have not been in the position to play their optimal and projected roles.

However, with a team as talented on paper as Philly’s, the urgency to make upgrades is a source of constant itch. Moreso when the team is quickly spiraling to the point that it could take a trek for them to even get to .500.

Still, Daryl Morey and co. already laid the groundwork for a more sustainable roster-building than their counterparts. Jettisoning firsty-round picks, even for a valid cause as the circumstances demand, would be a counterintuitive design.

Nevertheless, the Philadelphia 76ers seem ready to take their win-now approach a notch higher, if it isn’t already cranked up to a maximum, even though doing so could have serious ramifications on their future.
