The Philadelphia 76ers are starting to show real signs of improvement over the last couples of weeks or so, but there is still a lot of work to be done for them to close in on what remains a big deficit in their win-loss card.
Philly is still firmly slotted beyond the Top 10 despite the Eastern Conference paling in comparison to the West, but it cannot afford to rely on most of their contemporaries’ slow starts to build traction in the standings. With a cleaner bill of health hopefully on the way, the 76ers have golden opportunity to climb the ladder, and the must maximize whatever healthy window they could have.
Having said that, the reality of the situation is the 76ers have had way too many role players underperform this season, which has played a huge part in their unprecedented terrible start. And with trade season starting to unravel itself, the front office will have no choice but to seeks better options out in the market.
Seth Curry should be a trade target for the 76ers
One of the biggest weaknesses for the 76ers this season that badly needs addressing is their erratic three-point shooting. Through 21 games, they have the third-worst conversion rate from rainbow country, draining just 32.1 percent of their three-point attempts — an utterly measly figure for a team that needs to surround its stars with high-accuracy shooters.
To abate that issue, the 76ers should go take a hard look at some cheap options on the market. One player that stands out in this regard is Seth Curry, who has found himself stuck to the bench this season for the struggling Charlotte Hornets.
Curry, who played solid basketball for the 76ers for two seasons from 2020 to 2022, would be a nice, end of the bench addition for the team. The team badly needs a consistent three-point threat who can get hot in a pinch, especially with the likes of Eric Gordon, Kyle Lowry, and Kelly Oubre Jr. failing to move the needle on the perimeter thanks to their erratic shooting from distance .
To make things better, there’s virtually no chance that the Hornets would demand something of ample value in return for the 34-year-old, who has become one of their most expendible players. Even a protected second-rounder could suffice at this point as an offer for his services.
The 76ers front office has to be opportunistic moving forward, and setting their sights on low-cost veterans with solidified roles like Seth Curry is exactly the way to play the market game this season.
