The Philadelphia 76ers seem content with riding their current roster to training camp, and if that is the case, well, they are most certainly missing out on one player who could instantly fix one of their biggest woes as a team.
Three-point shooting has been a problem for the 76ers over the last couple of seasons. In 2024-25, they were in the bottom-third in both makes per game and shooting percentage, highlighting their lack of reliable perimeter shooting to complement their otherwise well-rounded scoring attack.
As the roster currently stands, the 76ers still do not have a clear answer to their three-point shooting woes. That is the one and only reason why the idea of the front office going after someone like Malik Beasley, who was one of the absolute best snipers last season, was more than palatable despite his off-court troubles (for which he was cleared of just recently, by the way).
Unfortunately, the 76ers are merely sitting on that possibility as another major rivals closes in on stealing him away from their vicinity.
76ers caught sleeping as Knicks close in on free agent sniper Malik Beasley
According to Hoops Hype’s Michael Scotto, the Knicks are one of two teams (alongside the Cavaliers) which have registered interest on Beasley shortly after he was let go from the investigative sphere following allegations of prop bets and gambling in relation to NBA games.
Of course, given their muddled salary sheet, New York is only offering the veteran’s minimum to Beasley, which actually makes the 76ers’ inaction all the more perplexing, if not utterly wrong.
Opportune instances like these are pretty hard to come by, and by seemingly foregoing the chance to even be in the running for a much-needed player on a heavily discounted deal, the 76ers are wasting an optimal chance to smoothen the roster, especially off the bench.
Beasley, who made 309 three-pointers last season while draining north of 41 percent of his triples, would be a virtually perfect fit in Philly. But unfortunately, it seems like one of New York and Cleveland will instead enjoy his services at this rate. The rich gets richer.
Now, there is still time for the Philadelphia 76ers to extend an offer and hope that Malik Beasley cozies up to the idea of playing for the franchise, but given their current silence, that is as far-fetched as it can get, which absolutely sucks in the grand scheme of things.
