The Philadelphia 76ers only have one goal in the coming season, which is to win the championship. The franchise brought in two new stars into the fold, but they are still going to be relying a lot on Tyrese Maxey. That being said, adjustments will have to be made to accommodate their blitzkrieg of raw talent, and to that effect, the team is lucky that the All-Star guard is taking on a different route toward superstardom –– the track where winning is the emphasis.

During an exchange with ESPN's Dave McMenamin just recently, Maxey shed light on his approach ahead of the 2026-27 season, saying that he wants to be judged by winning. He noted that he has already reached the point where he has proven his talent, and that moving forward, being better presupposes being a winner. Obviously, that is a direct reference to the 76ers' collective success.

Tyrese Maxey is taking a different path with the 76ers into superstardom

This past season, Maxey turned in his strongest season yet, averaging a career-high 28.3 points and 6.6 assists per game. He earned an All-Star nod while also being named to the All-NBA Third Team, proving that the hefty investment the franchise committed to its homegrown talent is worth it.

Usually, established stars like Maxey have to further boost his numbers to cement his superstar status. After all, more hoopla naturally comes when players put up mind-boggling numbers. However, given the context of the 76ers having a star-studded lineup, that design is simply not tenable. Sacrifices will be made and most likely, Maxey's numbers will take a hit this season.

The other path to superstardom is becoming synonymous with winning. That is precisely what Maxey is committing himself to, which is a good sign for the franchise. As he said, he has already proven himself early in his career, and as he enters his prime, leading the 76ers to meaningful success is what will take him to an entirely different conversation when talking about the league's brightest stars.

The 76ers have made it pretty clear that winning the title will be the one and only metric for success this season. Tyrese Maxey will be a critical part of that cause with his electric scoring and improved playmaking. Be that as it may, every individual accolade he may rack up will be fool's gold if it does not culminate into a desperately needed championship.
