The Philadelphia 76ers are getting some help on Wednesday night against the Indiana Pacers.
After the team had a bit of an injury scare with its star guard VJ Edgecombe over the weekend, the Sixers can officially let out a sigh of relief. When the team released its injury report for the Pacers game, the Sixers kept VJ Edgecombe's name off of it. As Nick Nurse suggested, there is no reason to be concerned about the sophomore guard.
Edgecombe's minor setback occurred during the Sixers' back-to-back set over the weekend. It was the first back-to-back of the 2026-2027 NBA season, and Edgecombe was fully ready to play in both games. Unfortunately, a knee to the abdomen left the two-way standout in some pain.
Edgecombe went on to finish the game against the Milwaukee Bucks. He played just a few seconds shy of 30 minutes. While Edgecombe struggled with his overall efficiency (38.5% from the field), the veteran guard turned up the volume from three. He hit on five of his 10 shots from deep.
A double-double was in store for Edgecombe. It was the first of the season. He produced 17 points while coming down with 13 rebounds. In addition to the double-double, Edgecombe had two assists, two blocks, and one steal. He helped the Sixers secure their third win in a row, to begin the season at 3-0.
Ahead of the following game, Edgecombe felt sore. The 76ers were on pace to play a physical Detroit Pistons team. The medical staff wisely told Edgecombe to sit the game out. The 76ers added a second starter to the injury report, keeping Joel Embiid off the floor. Seeing as though it was game two of a back-to-back set, the Sixers continued with the trend of holding Embiid out to avoid loading up on minutes in under two days.
76ers' starting five reunites after falling
When the Sixers took on the Bucks, they didn't have their entire star-studded starting five for the first time this season. LeBron James was given the night off. Embiid and Edgecombe made two in the following matchup.
On Wednesday, the Sixers will have their starting five reunite after collecting their first loss of the season. While many might envision plenty of lost time for this unit throughout the year, considering Joel Embiid's injury concerns and LeBron James' age, the Sixers will continue to take advantage of having everybody healthy as much as possible. On Wednesday, they'll take on a Pacers team that has a loaded injury report that includes multiple starters.
