The downsides of the 76ers trading for Eason
As with any other exchange, the 76ers won’t be purely sniffing roses in this proposed deal. While Eason is indeed a good prospect, Philly paying a first-rounder — and a very valuable one at that as it is from the Clippers in 2028 — is a steep price for his services.
Any Clippers first-rounder years from now will be a massive treasure, and the 76ers are neatly set-up to rake in the rewards from LA’s impending misfortunes. Dangling it away for a role player, even though boasting promise, does not have the makings of an optimal use of such coveted asset.
In addition, Eason is, again, injury-prone. The 76ers, a team already favored heavily by the injury bug for reasons known to none, should probably stay away from those already brandishing frail physicals moving forward.
Grade: C+
At this point in time, trading for Tari Eason would be a huge game-changer for the Philadelphia 76ers, especially given their pressing need at forward. However, that first-round pick from the Clippers in 2028 is too valuable to hand out arbitrarily, even if the other outgoing parts of the deal are rather negligible.
