Alarming 76ers crisis emerges as superstar gives them the cold shoulder

This only fortifies an overlooked crisis the 76ers cannot gloss over.

In keeping with their current ills, the Philadelphia 76ers would definitely benefit a lot from a huge shake-up. However, that is currently out of the realm of reality, as the franchise faces huge financial and situational constraints that prevent them from even going after a facelift this offseason.

Frankly speaking, the 76ers will most likely look the same next season, at least when it comes to their core players. After all, there is too little of a sample size to make a proper assessment of their current nucleus thanks to ill-timed injuries that derailed their campaign.

Having said that, the front office cannot entirely rule out the possibility of a huge switch happening. Wilder things have happened in the NBA, and with Daryl Morey still at the helm, Philly is unlikely to shy away from taking center stage if the right opportunity comes.

Unfortunately, the 76ers seem to be playing dumb to an emerging crisis that could end up making a huge difference in how they build the roster moving forward.

76ers crisis on full display as Giannis Antetokounmpo reportedly leaves them out completely of his wish list

The 2025 offseason could very well be headlined by what the Bucks do with Giannis Antetokounmpo. The two-time MVP has not yet expressed a desire to request a trade out of Milwaukee, yet the franchise already seems to be nearing the lifespan of the Giannis era following a first-round ouster in the hands of the Indiana Pacers.

Numerous teams would naturally salivate at the thought of trading for Antetokounmpo. However, it seems like the 76ers are extremely unlikely to be a destination for the superstar, not even being in his rumored shortlist of teams.

The Ringer’s Howard Beck recently listed the LA and New York teams, the Heat, and the Bulls as teams which are predicted by many to be the Greek Freak’s landing spot in case he gets dealt this offseason.

That the 76ers are nowhere on this list when it’s littered by teams without the actual means of dealing for Giannis only goes to show that at this juncture, Philadelphia is not really a popular place in mind for superstars looking for new homes.

This pattern is not something the 76ers should take lightly. Their current nucleus is already dicey, and if they want to lay the groundwork for their future, making the franchise an appealing destination for established stars should be high on their priority list.

Of course, trades and free agency are not the only means to sustainably build a roster, but the Philadelphia 76ers simply cannot afford to be unpopular for stars still in their heyday.
