Thanksgiving is here, and as kismet would have it, Philadelphia 76ers fans might have something new to potentially be grateful β€” the fact that they are actually slated for a reunion unlike any other. However, with Ben Simmons being the subject thereof, some people might treat it like an unwanted intrusion, one way or the other.

Yes, you read that right β€” a reunion between Simmons and the 76ers is not outside the realm of possibility. Not to say that it’s highly likely (or just likely), but it is certainly not impossible. We have seen crazier things happen on the transaction fronts in the league, and to further ignite frenzy, the former All-Star himself seems to be interested in the idea.

Just recently, fans noticed that Simmons, who is currently out of the NBA and is technically a free agent, liked a comment under one of his posts on Instagram that he would be a great fit with the current iteration of the 76ers roster. Naturally, this elicited mixed reactions from fans.

Ben Simmons appears to be open to reuniting with the 76ers

Simmons, while not being rostered right now, garnered some legitimate interest from teams this summer, although he ultimately made the decision to take a break and focus on fixing his body in hopes of returning to the league eventually. He has already shut down erstwhile rumors of him contemplating retirement, so the prep work for him to come back is already there.

For better or for worse, there is a faction within the 76ers fanbase which has already been toying with the idea of reuniting with Simmons, especially with his price tag reaching the absolute floor. However, the more sentimental ones are strongly against it, and this dynamic precisely reflects what the 76ers probably think about the scenario.

Of course, Simmons still has his well-known strengths as a defender and playmaker. Despite his drastically reduced role over the years, those two remained core parts of his game.

However, his injury history and docile nature on offense make him a tricky fit, to say the least. Still, there is probably room for him to thrive if put together with the right complementary players and cudgeled into a role tailor-made for him.

Obviously, these are all plainly speculative right now, but given how the 76ers need another big body on the roster, the chances of Ben Simmons returning to the franchise has probably gone from nil to at least a percentage higher.

While absolutely menial, that really says a lot.
