The Philadelphia 76ers are on board for what could very well be the final season of LeBron James in his illustrious career. At the very least, that is what nearly everyone is speculating on. However, it appears that such a stance is far from a firm one at this juncture, as a new prediction by the NBA insider Marc Stein has the King seriously considering playing another year after the upcoming campaign in order to lace them up with 25 seasons under his belt.
Stein noted that James himself does not even know when his final year will be, which casts a significant shadow on the popular belief that he is entering his final hurrah as a pro. If so, then the 76ers could see their LeBron "era" end up becoming more than just a fleeting period in time before it even officially begins.

Well, James signed a two-year deal with the 76ers, which automatically implies that another campaign after the looming season could definitely be in the cards. That being said, such a contract structure could also just be due diligence on his camp's part, as no one really knows when LeBron will hang his sneakers up for good.
The megastar, however, mentioned in his announcement post that his move to Philly was going to be his last decision. That effectively forecloses any chance for him to jump ship to another franchise after the 2026-27 season. Any and all extensions to his career will most likely be spent with the 76ers.
With James helping steer the wheel this time, the 76ers are already one of the early favorites to win the title next season, which will be characterized as a championship-or-bust campaign. However, if their fears happen and they end up missing short of their goal, that could be added motivation for James to return for another go-round. That would also bring him to his 25th year in the league, a ludicrous accomplishment that will best the record of 23 seasons that he set this past season.
At this point, it is no use speculating on when James' final year would come. The 76ers will just have to do whatever it takes to reach their goal next season. While it would be good to have him for more than a single campaign, both sides will probably be more than happy to sacrifice that if it means winning a championship ASAP.
