The Philadelphia 76ers have brought in new names this offseason, with one of them being forward Dean Wade whom the front office pursued and successfully plucked away from the open market. Be that as it may, his sterling status right now as a brand new acquisition does not exempt him from the duty to prepare himself for the storm already brewing from deep within the fanbase.
As is the case with every player who dons the 76ers colorways, Wade will have to acclimate himself to the passionate fanbase in Philly. The good thing is that according to him, his former teammate in Georges Niang (who was once a fan favorite in Philadelphia) already warned him about the extra-demanding fanbase supporting the team.
Wade said Niang told him that 76ers fans are the best ones in the world, but only if you play the game the right way. While that partakes the form of an advice –– and it might be intended as such –– the underlying thought piece is that of a stern warning. Wade has no other choice but to double down on his strengths while minimizing his mistakes to woo the fans.
Dean Wade ia already learning a tough lesson with the 76ers
Philadelphia sports are just built different, and the 76ers have a special place in the city as a franchise. That is precisely why passionate is the most frequent term employed to describe the fanbase –– largely for the better and a little less for the worse.
At this very juncture, Wade is expected to be the team's starting power forward, playing as a complementary piece next to Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown, and VJ Edgecombe. There might even be some times where the coaching staff intentionally plays him out of his normal position, especially on the defensive end.
Defense and spot-up shooting will Wade's calling cards moving forward, and those areas are actually the ones which fans often take a closer look at. If Wade cannot deliver in those departments, the team is not exactly lacking in alternatives. They are just too raw.
Hopefully, Dean Wade will be able to learn his lesson right from the get go. The Philadelphia 76ers fanbase is the most animated bunch in the league, and when they love you, they will love you to death. Otherwise, all shall brace for impact.
