Draymond Green’s Jaylen Brown quote should put 76ers fans at ease

Draymond Green makes the best point about Jaylen Brown as he enters his Sixers era.

Draymond Green commentary might not be every NBA fan’s cup of tea, but Philadelphia 76ers fans will want to listen to his latest quote, which defended the broken-up Boston Celtics duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

Since the latter player landed in a trade to the Sixers, Brown has faced a lot of negative attention from the media. Reports about a possible fractured relationship between co-stars might’ve been thrown out there to scare the Sixers.

But let Draymond Green be the voice of reason for this moment.

“That [expletive] doesn’t matter. We all have different lives. Jaylen Brown has no kids, and to my understanding, is single. Jayson Tatum has two kids and is in a relationship. That right there alone sets the stage to live two completely different lives,” Green said on the latest episode of The Draymond Green Show.

“Does not mean they didn’t like each other. Does not mean they hate each other. It simply means we don’t carry the same interests off the basketball court. They just couldn’t carry the same interests off the basketball court. None of you people who sit and judge hang out with every colleague that you work with. But for some reason, when it comes to basketball players, if two guys don’t hang out, it’s a big issue?”

The Sixers have been down this road before

Before Tyrese Maxey was a two-time All-Star for the 76ers, Joel Embiid’s homegrown co-star teammate was Ben Simmons.

As the two got deeper in their careers with the Sixers, they grew apart. Joel Embiid didn’t enjoy nightlife as much. He became a father in 2020. Simmons lived a different life. It was a constant talking point in Philadelphia, and the two stars had to downplay the narratives about a possible beef throughout the entire 2020-2021 season.

Now, the 76ers didn’t cut ties with Simmons quickly enough to avoid fireworks.

There was a boiling point, and the Sixers had to feel the tension for half of the 2021-2022 NBA season.

Nobody wants to go down that road again. The reports about the status of the Brown-Tatum connection might worry some fans because of the past, but Green makes it clear that there are other conclusions.

“I’ve been playing with Steph Curry for 14 years. Love Steph Curry to death. That’s my brother. We’ve been to hell and back,” Green explained. “We don’t hang out all the time off the basketball court. By the way, during the summertime, we don’t talk much at all. Every now and then I check in with him, every now and then he checks in with me. We don’t talk a bunch!”

It doesn’t take best friends to win four NBA championships in Golden State. It didn’t take best friends to win one title in Boston. No matter what the narrative is around Brown, the Sixers shouldn’t be too worried.
