Thanks to an unprecedented start, the Philadelphia 76ers have become one of the biggest talking points in the NBA this season, albeit for all the wrong reasons. After being initially pegged as one of the teams to beat for this campaign, the squad has instead taken a deep nosedive into the bottom pit of the association.
The 76ers have been so terrible to kickstart the season that Tyrese Maxey himself has admitted that there is really no other way to go but up for the team. After all, how much worse could this situation get? Two members of their vaunted Big Three are injured, Nick Nurse has been pretty subpar, the role players have underperformed to a great extent, and fans continue to be divided.
Simply put, Philly has become the league’s laughingstock at this point — an unfortunate development for a proud franchise that entered the season brimming with hopes of winning the championship when the reality is that they may not even be able to sniff the playoffs in a weakened Eastern Conference. It’s that bad.
The 76ers have been so bad that even fans of a tanking rival are poking fun at them
Perhaps, a great barometer to demonstrate just how big of a mess the 76ers have been is to exploit some ironies going on in league circles. And what better way to exhibit that than a pot caling kettle black?
Making an entire commentary on a harmless post that barely got traction is pushing it way too far, but if anything, this is perfectly reflective of how capsized the 76ers have turned out from a perception aspect. What wwere once sterling projections have become launging points for the rest of the league, even for fans of an insufferable fanbase like Brooklyn.
In all fairness to the Nets, they have five more wins than the 76ers despite being widely anticipated to be this season’s version of The Process Sixers from years ago. Instead, they have looked really competitive with a bunch of ragtag role players and an impressive young head coach leading the charge.
Being in Nets conversations, however, must sting a ton for a pretty big-headed 76ers brass. Many had them duking it out with Boston for the right to represent the East in the 2025 NBA Finals. HOw the mighty have fallen, indeed.
Save for a few bright spots (or really, just a couple, there hasn’t been a lot of reasons for Philadelphia 76ers fans to take pride in the team they are supporting thus far. Hopefully, the tide changes drastically as it is way too embarrassing to witness fans of ambitionless teams routinely give the franchise some unprovoked digs here and there.
