With the start of the NBA regular season quickly approaching, teams are beginning to shed some players to meet their roster numbers. Each two-way-eligible center that hits the open market suddenly becomes worth a look for the Philadelphia 76ers.
One of the most recent cut candidates is the now-former Toronto Raptors center, Trey Jemison III. According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, Jemison was waived on Wednesday. He is coming off a one-game run with the Raptors during the 2026 NBA preseason. In eight minutes, he logged zero stats.
Should the Sixers give Jemison a look?
Similar to their offseason big man addition Ariel Hukporti, Jemison spent time with the championship-winning New York Knicks during the 2025-2026 NBA season. He appeared in 13 games off the bench after joining them on a two-way contract last September.
The Sixers aren't guaranteed to use their final two-way slot on a big man, but considering their current situation, that's the position that makes the most sense. Jemison isn't exactly the ideal center for today's NBA, considering his offensive limitations, but the Sixers don't necessarily need a floor-spacing center for the No. 3 big on their roster.
Jemison's physicality and rebounding are his strengths. With appearances for the Washington Wizards, Memphis Grizzlies, New Orleans Pelicans, Los Angeles Lakers, and the Knicks, Jemison has averaged 3.4 rebounds per game across 76 appearances. He accomplished that number in 13.8 minutes per game.
Offensively, Jemison is still a question mark at this point in his career, having limited range, but the Sixers clearly haven't made that a priority in their most recent search for bigs. The team added Hukporti, who averaged just 2.1 points per game across two seasons. As for Tacko Fall, he averaged 2.2 points per game in 37 appearances over a three-year span.
The state of the five spot
The 76ers are in a tough spot. Hukporti is going to miss the entire 2026-2027 NBA season after suffering a torn Achilles during the preseason opener last week.
While Adem Bona already had a good shot at earning the backup big man spot behind Joel Embiid for this year, he's dealing with a foot injury and still waiting for his debut this year. As for Fall, he suffered a hip injury during the second training camp session and hasn't been on the court since.
It's probably too late to give Jemison a tryout, but the 76ers shouldn't hesitate to give him a look if they need an outsider to take the third spot on the two-way roster.
