Years after leaving the Philadelphia 76ers, the veteran guard Shake Milton is working overseas and has found a new team to play for ahead of the 2026-2027 season.Â
According to a press release from Hapoel Jerusalem BC, Milton has signed a new deal, continuing his career beyond the NBA. Earlier in July, Milton officially parted ways with Partizan Belgrade in Serbia, where he spent the past season playing. During his EuroLeague run, Milton appeared in 23 games, picking up 10 starts. Seeing the court for 18 minutes per game, the NBA veteran shot 49.5% from the field, scoring 6.9 points per game. He also dished out 2.4 assists per game and came down with 1.4 rebounds per game.Â
Will Shake Milton Find His Way Back To The NBA?
The last time the NBA saw Milton in action was during the 2024-2025 season. He started the year with the Brooklyn Nets, where he appeared in 27 games. Since the Nets were getting started with their rebuild, they had a lot of moving parts throughout the year. Milton became a part of those changes in December 2024.Â
Brooklyn struck a trade with the Los Angeles Lakers, centered around Dorian Finney-Smith. Milton was a part of the package, so he ended up in the purple and gold. Milton would appear in 30 games for the Lakers, averaging just 11.5 minutes off the bench. In the following summer, he was waived by LA.Â
Clearly, the NBA has been down on Milton. Despite his experience and being only 29, he’s now going through his second straight summer without an NBA deal. There is a chance that Milton is only getting non-guaranteed deals to try out with a team in training camp. Or, he’s simply gaining more interest overseas.Â
Finding a way back to the NBA shouldn’t be out of the question for Milton. Recently, there have been a handful of players going overseas for a few years, building their stock back up, and returning. Guerschon Yabusele is a good example, as the Sixers gave him a second shot two seasons ago. Mario Hezonja is the most recent, as he just signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers after being away since 2019-2020.
The Sixers remain the only NBA team to truly give Milton a chance throughout his career. After he had a three-year run in the NCAA at SMU, the Sixers picked up Milton as a second-round pick (54th overall) in the 2018 NBA Draft. He started as a two-way player for the Sixers, spending a lot of time with the NBA G League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats.
In the G League, Milton was a star. After the Sixers realized there was plenty of potential, they decided to sign him with a four-year deal ahead of his sophomore effort with the Sixers. He played a prominent role during the 2019-2020 season, starting 24 out of 40 games with the team, averaging 9.4 points.Â
Over five years, Milton played in 254 games for the Sixers. He produced averages of 9.3 points, 2.7 assists, and 2.4 rebounds, while shooting 36.5% from three. After Philly, Milton had short-term runs with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Lakers, Nets, Detroit Pistons, and the New York Knicks.
