It seems that teams still interested in Trendon Watford have a shot to keep him around.
While the former Philadelphia 76ers forward has been included in overseas rumors, Watford took to social media on Monday to shoot down the rumors about his potential move to Spain.
"False news you guys," Watford wrote on X. "Don’t believe everything you see."

Where is the noise coming from? Donatas Urbonas of BasketNews reported on August 3 that Watford is "nearing" a deal with Valencia Basket in Spain. The club recently added two American players this offseason, with Watford targeted to be the third.
The ex-Sixers forward claims that the rumors are false. For what it's worth, this isn't the first time an NBA player has claimed that a report about their interest in playing overseas is overstated or simply untrue this offseason. In fact, former 76ers forward Guerscon Yabusele did something similar back in the spring, as he wanted to stay in the NBA.
However, there were numerous occasions in the past where reports turned out to be early--but not wrong. Once again, Yabusele is the perfect example. Although he held out for an NBA job, the former Sixer ended up taking a deal with Panathinaikos, and will head to Greece for next season and beyond.
In July, a social media report claimed that the former Denver Nuggets big man Jonas Valanciunas was signing with a Lithuanian club Žalgiris Kaunas, and Valanciunas denied it. A few days later, it became official. Valanciunas indeed left the NBA.
Maybe Watford is considering the move--and has real interest from Spain--but isn't ready to block calls from the NBA just yet. The 25-year-old has been in the league since 2021, and has enough experience to intrigue a team in need of a reliable backup forward.
Trendon Watford's NBA career so far
In 2021-2022, Watford appeared in 48 games with the Portland Trail Blazers. In the following season, he played in 62 games with the Blazers, seeing his playing time go up by one minute on average.
In 2023-2024, Watford fired up a two-season run with the Brooklyn Nets. Although his playing time was down to 13.6 minutes per game, he ended up seeing a major increase to 20.8 minutes per game in 44 outings with the Nets during the 2024-2025 season.
The Sixers brought Watford on and played him in 53 games during the 2025-2026 season. He averaged 16.3 minutes of action, producing 6.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. The Sixers declined Watford's team option before heading into free agency, leaving him searching for a fresh start. Whether that will be in the NBA or overseas remains unclear.
