The Philadelphia 76ers have way too many problems of their own to be thinking about the troubles of other parties, but one former player of theirs is definitely having a rough day in the field following a recent, painful revelation.
Patrick Beverley, who spent some time with the 76ers during the 2023-24 NBA season before getting shipped midway through the campaign to the Bucks, did not see action in the league for all of last season. He spent a significant chunk of the year playing in Israel before sitting out.
Having said that, the three-time All-Defensive Team guard has not yet retired. Yet his chances of playing in the NBA again appear to be very slim due to the fact that he has not gotten much clout from any team in the league for another go-round. He remains without a team with free agency basically already over, which is actually a tad surprising given that he is still a dependable veteran when cudgeled into a minor role.
Beverley’s time as an NBA veteran, however, is slowly coming to a halt, especially in light of what has just been uncorked about his journey to keep playing as a pro.
Former 76ers guard Patrick Beverley reportedly got rejected by an NBL team
After spending time in Israel, Beverley seems to have tried taking his talents to the other side of the continent. However, he definitely got a chilly reception in his supposed foray into Australia.
Sources say that Beverley was contemplating joining the Perth Wildcats in the increasingly popular National Basketball League (NBL) housed in Australia, but they apparently did not reciprocate the feisty guard’s interest in joining them for next season.
That is most certainly a grim signal for the veteran. If an overseas team would not even engage with him despite his own initiative, the NBA would be even be further away from his reach, right?
At this point, the hard-nosed Beverley will most likely need to hop onto other opportunities, even smaller ones, just to prove that he still has something left in the tank save for his notorious antics on the hardwood. But until then, he is probably not going to command a lot of interest nor attention.
Oh, and this goes without saying — the 76ers should definitely stay away from him. They just cannot afford to bring in a potential headache-raiser who will leave a bigger imprint when it comes to the things that matter the least. Let him figure this one out.
