The Philadelphia 76ers have a lot of soul-searching to do. With the playoff race starting to become tight out East, the team is starting to stumble once again. Their latest loss to the Magic is just another disappointment atop their list of underwhelming showings since the calendar flipped to 2025.
With the second half of the season just around the corner, the 76ers can no longer afford to act nonchalantly. Every game must be approached with a degree of desperation moving forward. Otherwise, they risk losing their chance to make the playoffs altogether.
On a related note, the 76ers are not the only who has had a not-so-ideal start to 2025. In fact, there are former players on the roster who remains available for taking and have yet to find a new home in the NBA.
4 Former Philadelphia 76ers players who are still without an NBA contract
1. Patrick Beverley
Patrick Beverley spent a large chunk of last season playing for the 76ers before he was shipped to the Bucks. While he received offers to remain in the NBA during the offseason, the pesky veteran opted to chase the bag with the Israeli Premiere Basketball League. The veteran has not been entirely out of the loop with the league thanks to his podcast and notorious takes as the league’s resident iconoclast, but he remains without an NBA team at this juncture. It is unknown if he still has offers waiting for him, though.
2. Marcus Morris Sr.
Just like Beverley, Marcus Morris Sr. was a half-season member of the team in 2023-24 before he landed in Cleveland to end the campaign. He initially signed with the Knicks before the training camp, but was eventually cut. At the moment, he remains a free agent and has not signified any plans of retiring, making him readily available for any club in need of help at forward.
3. Robert Covington
Another veteran forward who is somehow still untapped by any NBA team this season is Robert Covington. Thanks to an injury-riddled second go-round with the 76ers last season, his market became pretty stale, although his pedigree as a defender should make him an interesting addition to a playoff team.
4. Montrezl Harrell
Montrezl Harrell was a part of the 76ers as recently as last season, but before the regular season even began, he was already out of commission due to a torn ACL. The former Sixth Man of the Year has found a home with the Adelaide 36ers of the National Basketball League in Australia where he has been a tremendous force, so he may not be as desperate to return to the NBA, where his skill set has become obsolete.
