After spending a short period of time with the Boston Celtics, the former Philadelphia 76ers center Nikola Vucevic was able to get his own perspective on the final days of the Jayson Tatum-Jaylen Brown duo in Boston.
While Vucevic recently addressed it, noting that he didn't get a sense that there was any bad blood between the two, he now has to focus on a different running mate for Brown: LeBron James.
The Eastern Conference has to watch out for LeBron
It's still shocking to say, but the Sixers are going to roll with LeBron James and Jaylen Brown next season, pairing them alongside Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and VJ Edgecombe.
Vucevic wasn't going to continue playing in Boston, along with Brown, but he remains in the Eastern Conference with the emerging Orlando Magic. So, LeBron James, and now Jaylen Brown, become one of Vucevic's biggest problems in the East.
When asked about what kind of impact LeBron can bring to the 76ers this season, Vucevic didn't hold back. He believes the 41-year-old will still have a notable impact on the championship-hopeful squad.
"His experience and his knowledge of the game. That means so much. Maybe his role won’t be the same as it used to be, when he dominated and controlled the entire game, but he can still contribute a lot," Vucevic recently told SKWEEK. "His basketball IQ is one of the highest in the history of the game. The way he reads what other teams are doing, what his own team needs to do, how they’re going to defend somebody… That’s going to mean a lot to Philadelphia. We’ll see how it all fits together.”
Vucevic, who will be 36 by week two of the 2026-2027 NBA season, is getting a fresh start with one of his former teams. Afte runs with the Sixers, Chicago Bulls, and the Celtics, Vucevic returns to the Orlando Magic, where he played from 2012-2021.
The veteran center has faced a prime LeBron, who used to dominate the East as the focal point of his teams. These days, James is going to the Sixers on a veteran's minimum and is ready to play whatever complementary role they give him.
That's not to say that LeBron is going to totally take a backseat to his younger 76ers teammates, but he won't have as much pressure to do everything at an MVP-caliber level at this stage. For anybody who questions whether LeBron moves the needle in Philly or not, look no further than the two-time All-Star's comments, which certainly suggest that Philly will remain a major threat this year.
