The Philadelphia 76ers may prefer to completely forget about everything that has transpired this season, but the front office definitely cannot afford to have that mindset. Even amid a tremendous down year, the franchise still has some silver linings to look at, giving them at least some reason to still look back.
One of those reasons is Guerschon Yabusele, whom the 76ers badly wish to re-sign in the offseason. Entering unrestricted free agency for the first time in his career, the Frenchman definitely has some options awaiting him in the market. Philly, however, has made it pretty clear with its moves that it envisions him as a part of the team for the foreseeable future.
Yabusele has been a terrific addition to the 76ers this season. He started the year off as a gambit for the front office, which saw enough to go through the hassle of buying out his contract in Europe to bring him in and facilitate his return to the NBA. And by all means, he has made everything worth it with his solid play all year long.
Guerschon Yabusele ponders about his future with the 76ers amid free agency
The 76ers are currently believed to be the frontrunners to sign Yabusele in free agency, but it appears like the forward isn’t rushing the process in what would be his first foray into unrestricted free agency.
”I’ve never been in that situation, so I have no idea how this will be, but I’m pretty excited to see the summer coming and see what we’ll have on the table. Of course, it’s going to be a long conversation. It’s not something I’m going to think about overnight. I’m going to take my time and see what the options are. Having that option and chance to be back here is definitely something I love to hear”.
Learly, Yabusele would love to be back, which is natural for him. Philly has given him an ideal role given his skill set, and his play style matches well within the team’s dynamic on both ends of the court.
The veteran bruiser has emerged as the team’s most versatile piece, playing all front court positions this season. His post game allows the team to punish smaller lineups on offense, and his three-point shooting (nearly 40 percent) makes him a viable partner next to Joel Embiid and other centers.
Having said that, the 76ers cannot rest on their laurels. Teams will definitely lineup and see what he commands on the market, and there are a handful of ball clubs with both the cap space and actual need to lure him into signing a deal.
Still, the Philadelphia 76ers have continuity and familiarity going for them with Guerschon Yabusele Given how they have helped him fulfill his goal of making it back to the big league. Hopefully, he rewards the franchise with his loyalty in free agency.
