The Philadelphia 76ers have no other choice to be the most resourceful team in the league this offseason. Their financial constraints are public knowledge at this point, and no one will really help them rise from the ashes. That is the very reality they are facing this summer.
Sure, the 76ers did really well during the 2025 NBA Draft, but it is the follow-up that could very well dictate the entire outlook of their offseason. Soon enough, free agency will open, and the team will be forced to make some pretty tough decisions to usher in much-needed improvements to the roster ahead of their comeback bid nest season.
For now, Philly is caught up with its own free agents, some of them they have no control over. But for the ones where they do, the burning question stands — can the 76ers afford to keep them on the roster? For a couple of names, the answer remains in the clouds.
That makes it all the more important for the 76ers to scout the market for less herald finds. But fortunately for them, the Suns may have just given them one — Bol Bol.
Bol Bol could be the next big reclamation project for the 76ers
According to new reports coming out of Phoenix, the Suns do not intend to re-sign Bol to a new deal, leaving him open to hit unrestricted free agency this summer after a couple of seasons with the franchise.
Bol, who will enter his seventh year in his NBA career, could find it tedious to land a consistent role elsewhere — something he has not had since leaving Orlando. That makes him a pretty inexpensive get, and for that, the 76ers should find him a feasible option.
The 76ers need young, high-upside players to round out their bench, and Bol definitely fits that mold. He is much better in theory than in practice, but the latter is still plenty good in spurts, especially when he is surrounded by great shot creators where all he has to do is finish plays and leverage his lankiness on D — two of his biggest strengths.
The 25-year-old can play inside and out, and having him aboard will give the 76ers some much-needed stylistic variance from the center and power forward positions. One gripe fans had with their recent draft pick, Johni Broome, is that he is a traditional big man who does not offer anything new. With Bol, that is clearly not the case.
The Philadelphia 76ers need to nail all of their signings in free agency, and with Bol Bol not expected to command much, the front office should take a flier on him and commit to him as perhaps their next reclamation project.
