The Philadelphia 76ers' 2026 offseason has brought a ton of hope back to the team. Despite getting a swift reality check from the NBA Champions in the second round of the playoffs, the Sixers will enter the 2026-2027 season with a ton of excitement surrounding them.
You can surely enjoy the moment, but one of the team's newest additions, Jaylen Brown, is taking the realist approach. He admits that his new front office did a great job this summer. At the end of the day, it means nothing at this very moment.
Not time to celebrate
"Obviously, on paper, we're excellent. We have a lot of talent compared to the other teams in the league," Jaylen Brown told reporters during his introductory press conference on Thursday. "I've been around a long time--long enough to know that what you have on paper doesn't really mean nothing."
Jaylen Brown has played on early title favorites that couldn't come out on top, and win it all in the end. He also played on a team that had the pressure of winning the title, and successfully came out on top with an NBA championship in 2023-2024. That same championship-or-bust pressure he felt in the past is exactly what he's going to deal with going into his first season with the Sixers.

Brown makes a simple factor clear: the Sixers have to put the work in. Beyond that, he says the Sixers have to avoid distractions, especially ones that come from outsiders. With all of the media attention the Sixers are going to attract this upcoming season, Brown wants to make it clear that all the noise has to be blocked out.
"It just takes the amount of work, transparency, and the leadership can really guide this thing. I'm focused on that--how can I lead with my heart, my work, my mentality--on paper we look great, but let's all slow down and take real work every single day to make something like this happen," Brown added.
Beyond all of the exciting social media posts from Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and LeBron James, there is Jaylen Brown, who is making it clear that the Sixers truly haven't done anything yet. They can't get ahead of themselves, or else there is a chance that they'll fall victim to the early excitement, which could serve as nothing more than a distraction at this stage of the year.
