The Philadelphia 76ers faithful does not exactly have fond memories of Jimmy Butler. After all, the All-Star infamously spurned the franchise the exact summer after a deep playoff run in 2019, ultimately making him an expensive rental for the franchise. Well, a long time has lapsed since then, but it appears that he is slowly asserting himself back on the hit list for the fanbase following his recent remarks about his new-look former squad.

In a recent exchange on SiriusXM radio, Butler was asked about his thoughts on the 76ers landing both LeBron James and Jaylen Brown this offseason. Well, suffice it to say that he was not too impressed, saying that he and the Warriors are going to give them hell whenever the two teams play each other.

Jimmy Butler issues big challenge to the 76ers with recent fiery remarks

Butler is currently sidelined as he rehabs his ACL injury from last season, but given that the Warriors have set a timeline for his return around the January to February mark, there should be a strong likelihood that he will be in uniform when the Dubs take on the 76ers late in the season. Philadelphia and Golden State are set to duke it out in late March and early April, so he should already be acclimated at that point if all goes well with his recovery.

The six-time All-Star has never been one to shy away from speaking his mind, but it is difficult to treat his comment as a rational one. No one knows yet what the revamped 76ers will look like, but as constructed, Philly has every kind of advantage over Golden State in a head-to-head matchup.

At this point, the Warriors would be lucky to even be in the play-in race in the Western Conference. Last season, they missed the playoffs outright. Now, their nucleus is a year older, and their multiple key players for them are currently sidelined with pretty major injuries and other ailments.

On the flip side, the 76ers were able to extend their championship window by adding two Finals MVPs in James and Brown and bringing in some highly coveted role players in free agency. Right now, Philly is reckoned as a top contender for the East, if not for the championship itself, so on paper, it is difficult to fathom the Warriors giving the 76ers "hell," as Butler described it.

Anyhow, the 76ers are facing immense pressure anyway. Given how tight the race is in view of the competitive landscape in the league right now, every win matters, and they certainly cannot afford to be selective about the opposing teams they want to show up against. That being said, Jimmy Butler issuing this challenge should serve as extra motivation for the 76ers to not only notch an extra win or two, but also to prove to him that his indifference is for naught.
