The Golden State Warriors seem to be all-in on keeping Steph Curry around for the remainder of his career. Of course, that will come at a high cost, given everything he's done for the organization and the value he still brings to the table.
With Curry's extension window in Golden State opening up, there is a chance that he secures a new deal that will place him on a path to surpass Philadelphia 76ers star LeBron James in total career earnings.

I'm sure there are teams out there hoping that Curry pulls a LeBron and hits the open market in order to secure a discounted deal with a new squad, but the Warriors haven't told anybody that moving on from Curry is in the cards. The superstar guard seems to be on the same page.
Recently, ESPN's Bobby Marks noted that a max extension of up to $136.7 million could be available to Curry when the Warriors are ready to start talking shop about it. There's no guarantee that Curry will get that, but if he does, he'll be on the path to entering the $600 million club. Suddenly, LeBron James won't be in the lead for career earnings.

Before the start of the 2026-2027 NBA season, LeBron has $581.3 million in career earnings, which is a significant gap compared to No. 2 Kevin Durant, who is at $501.1 million. This year, Durant will add $43.9 million to his total. Curry will officially stake his $500 million club status when he adds $62.5 million from 2026-2027 to his $470.1 million total.
It seems this is going to be a record that LeBron won't hold when he's all said and done. James just famously took on a massive discount to join the 76ers for the 2026-2027 season, and potentially beyond. Despite wrapping up a two-year, $101.3 million contract with the Lakers, James didn't focus on finances ahead of his next stint. He secured a career-low $3.8 million salary for the upcoming run and has a $4.07 million player option on the table for 2027-2028.
Soon, Durant and Curry could fight for the top of the list, leaving LeBron James sitting at third. Behind him is the former Sixer James Harden, who recently inked a deal that is guaranteed to put him in the $500 million club, as he's already at $411.6 million heading into the new season.
