The Philadelphia 76ers have their fair share of issues ahead of next season, none more pressing than the completely uncertainty engulfing the roster with just a couple of months left before training camp opens. There is the Joel Embiid injury situation, which has become a very difficult to gauge, and he is not the only one currently ailing on the team.

Oh, and how could we forget the ongoing standstill with respect to Quentin Grimes and his complicated free agency? As of this moment, the 76ers and the 25-year-old’s camp seem to be far away from a resolution, and at this rate, this may spill over shortly before the preseason commences.

Having said that, all of those seem puny when compared to the apparent fate of this former 76ers big man, who is poised to hit a dead-end on his NBA career after this most recent development.

Former 76ers center Charles Bassey is close to being out of the NBA

Charles Bassey, whom Philadelphia snagged with the 53rd pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, is on the brink of seeing his career in the big league come to an unfortunate ending. His market completely dried this summer, and with free agency almost over, he has yet to find a new taker for his services.

The Nigerian center only had a momentuous stint with the 76ers, appearing in just 23 games during the 2021-22 campaign. However, he spent the last three seasons playing out West with the Spurs, carving out a minor role as a backup center in San Antonio.

Unfortunately, his Spurs stint was far from a remarkable one. He struggled with injuries left and right, and when healthy, he did not improve much offensively and in the other finer aspects of the game, only standing out as a shot blocker in spurts. Still, his finishing issues and shortcomings when it came to rebounding became far too obvious to ignore.

Bassey spent some time with the Celtics during the Summer League, but him being a summer participant in Boston has not advanced to an actual partnership. As a result, he is probably going to spend the season outside the league, with an offer in the Euroleague already awaiting him.

Nonetheless, he is still restraining himself from making the jump to Europe, with rumors saying that he is still hoping for the Celtics to hand him an offer. Unfortunately, with Boston still teetering with the tax aprons, that could be a difficult one for him to get.
