Despite featuring in just five games so far in the 2025-26 schedule, Paul George has showcased that the Philadelphia 76ers fanbase had no reason to question whether the veteran could slot into a lineup that boasts young talent like Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe. George has complemented his younger colleagues to perfection in his less prominent role within the offensive game plan.

The electric duo of Maxey and Edgecombe had established itself as the spearhead of a high-octane offense. Relentlessly, the pairing hits the opponent with a rapid transition attack, preventing the opposition from enacting any form of defense. Due to the nature of George's recent injury woes, Philadelphia supporters had questioned whether the ageing star would add much value to this style of basketball.

George has unequivocally answered his critics and has made positive contributions on both sides of the ball.

Paul George is proving to be a valuable asset

Throughout George's career, he has been recognised as a player who will bear the brunt of responsibility and inspire his teammates with his explosive actions -- something that was always destined to change when he sealed his move to Philadelphia.

During his debut campaign in a 76ers jersey, the versatile forward struggled to adjust to a role in the rotation that did not prioritise putting the ball in his hands at every given opportunity. However, the Fresno State graduate did show glimpses of what this Sixers team could look like if George could become accustomed to his surroundings, as he averaged 16.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game.

The former Los Angeles Clippers star appears to have come to terms with his place in the 76ers' hierarchy this campaign and is now showing that he is more than happy to supply his teammates with help in any area that they require.

George's defensive resilience has proven to be a useful attribute when he has featured for the Sixers. Throughout his five appearances, he has recorded two steals. More importantly, George has snatched 4.8 defensive rebounds per game -- a statistic that will relieve Joel Embiid from some of his defensive duties and provide the dominant center with a period of rest, reducing the chance of aggravating his left meniscus injury.

Not only has George displayed impressive defensive acumen, but he has also made a beneficial contribution in the scoring column for a player who is not considered the primary offensive option. The veteran forward has drained 14 points per game, albeit this is his lowest scoring output in 11 years; nevertheless, it is also the least that he has been utilized in an offensive game plan during the same period of time.

Philadelphia 76ers fans were right to question whether Paul George could put his ego to one side and have a positive effect on a roster that has exhibited impressive offensive prowess. However, his elite defensive attributes have shown that the nine-time NBA All-Star is the perfect addition to an exciting Sixers roster.
