In contrast to Council IV’s forceful attacks, Dowtin Jr. methodically manipulated the defense to create opportunities for himself and others. Dowtin Jr. has been effective throughout the Summer League. During the opening three games in Utah, he averaged 17 points, 3 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 1.3 steals, 0.3 blocks, and 1.3 turnovers while shooting an impressive 59.3% from the field.
The 76ers took the lead 75-74 at the 4:31 mark in the fourth quarter, after Dowtin Jr. assisted Council IV for a layup. From then on, Dowtin Jr. either scored or assisted for all but one scoring possession during the rest of the game. In the end, the 76ers won 94-81 and finished it off with style.
Dowtin Jr. remained composed down the stretch and showcased his wealth of playing experience compared to his peers. He is 27 years old and has substantial experience playing in the G League. For the past five seasons, he has averaged more than 28 minutes a night for various teams sprinkling in a few appearances in NBA games each season.
Maybe this year he can find a role on an NBA roster. He’s been one of the better players on the floor each night he’s been out there. Either way, he provides experience and professionalism to share with the incoming rookies on the 76ers' roster.
