3. Markelle Fultz

Markelle Fultz may not have lived up to expectations as a former No. 1 overall pick (and he probably won’t ever do), but he’s actually turned in a nice mini-resurgence for himself in the past few years as a member of the Orlando Magic. He’s been a constant in their rotation, although his team’s well-pronounced need for an upgrade makes it likely that he’ll have to resume his redemption arc elsewhere.

The former 76er settled for a lesser role this season, but his breakout campaign is too fresh for a shut out. During the 2022-23 season, Fultz normed 14 points and 5.7 assists per outing on 51.4 percent shooting, also providing stout defense.

Fultz’s sheer lack of a three-point shot is admittedly a sanguine, red flag, but Nick Nurse is a brilliant offensive engineer. More importnatly, he could still be a worthy gamble, thanks in large part to his heady defense built on his great instincts and anticipation, and uncanny skill as a drive-and-kick creator.
