4 Former 76ers who are still available on the free agent market
Fan favorite Robert Covington is facing a dry market
Following a year derailed by injuries, Robert Covington is another notable 76er whose services remain untapped in the open market. The 11-year veteran, one of the earliest high-volume three-and-D forwards in the NBA, is still expected to be a strong candidate for teams looking for veteran’s minimum additions.
At least, that’s the wish. Covington, while still favored by nealry every defensive metric out there, is not the all-encompassing stopper he once was. While still adept as a team defender, he simply lacks the foot speed to cover as much ground as he used to. Offensively, he’s almost neglible, save for the occasionally open three-pointer.
However, Covington still has what it takes to be a good sell for a team in dire need of depth, especially at the forward positions. Coincidentally, the 76ers need more reinforcements on that end, thoguh it remains to be seen whether they would be warm to the idea of re-upping him for next season.
