3. Doug McDermott can bring emergency shooting to the 76ers
Philadelphia doesn’t really have a lot of holes on the scoring end, but if one wants to nitpick, the team’s three-point shooting volume last season could bea point of fixation. While not necessary given their roster construction, adding a gunner or two would only benefit them well, especially within Nick Nurse’s dynamic offensive design.
One name who can definitely supply tons of three-point shooting to the 76ers when needed is veteran forward Doug McDermott, one of the league’s best pure shooters since he arrived in the NBA. He shot 41 percent from rainbow country last season, and there’s little reason to believe he can’t keep that up given his similar 41 percent three-point shooting clip for his career.
McDermott admittedly offers nothing outside of his off-ball movement and three-point shooting, and his defense is as bad as it can get, but the 76ers won’t require that out of an emergency sniper who should only see the court when the team needs a lift from the perimeter. In more fast-paced lineups, he can also work as he’s a great cutter who can exploit double teams.
