4. Kelly Oubre Jr. is too good at his current deal to be dangled away by Philly
Similar to Martin, Kelly Oubre Jr. was another solid role player who signed for a big discount. Just a full year after joining the 76ers on a veteran’s minimum deal and easily outplaying his deal, Philadelphia, despite initially long odds of retaining him due to inherent offer limits, managed to convince him to re-up.
After proving himself as a tenable role player on a winning cause, Oubre should remain a rotation staple for the team next season. He could start next to the team’s troika of All-Stars, but he can also man the second unit as its designated microwave scorer.
The 28-year-old has also become a much better team defender, slowly developing ways to leverage his athleticism on that end after years of being pegged as a one-dimensional shot chucker. With less defensive attention on his way, his shooting splits could climb to career-high rates in the upcoming campaign.
