2. De’Anthony Melton is likely to move on from Philly
De’Anthony Melton has been a reliable sixth man/starter for the 76ers in the last couple of years, but he turned in a pretty forgettable campaign this season. He was mostly out due to injury, and even in game where he played, his decline as a perimeter weapon was arguably the impetus behind the team’s musical chairs of backcourt cogs.
Previous reports have already alluded to Melton potentially seeking a larger payday, and even though he’s been more than a serviceable role player, he probably wouldn’t find his desired pay range in Philly. The 76ers are not only shooting for the stars and not just the lowest hanging fruit, but a team wrecked by injuries in recent years probably wouldn’t be too cozy with throwing a lot of cash on someone with recurring back issues.
Unfortunately for Melton, his time with the 76ers is likely over. I would love to be proven wrong, but he’s unlikely to take a discount that would prompt the front office to take a second look at the prospect of having him aboard for a prove-it year.
