3. No mo’ for the Mo Bamba project
The 76ers should — and probably would — approach the offseason with Joel Embiid at the forefront of the front office’s mind. Aside from keeping the former MVP happy, they must instill a tight insurance behind him — something they completely lacked this season and ultimately killed them in the process.
Mo Bamba, Philly’s reclamation project this season, certainly didn’t pay off as a flier acquisition. The young big man, despite his exceptional physical tools, continued to struggle impacting the floor on both ends, and his sheer lack of consistency certainly showed when the team tried to bank on him (and Paul Reed) to hold down the fort in Embiid’s lengthy injury-related absence.
Unfortunately for Bamba, the 76ers don’t have theorganizational timeline to keep going with a reclamation piece already cordoned off with red flags. Philadelphia will certainly be looking at more proven options in the frontcourt to back up Embiid, and the market isn’t exactly lacking in that department.
