4. Kelly Oubre Jr. has priced himself out of Philadelphia
For a veteran’s minimum signing, Kelly Oubre Jr. was probably the most valuable one this season. After bowing out of a good payday last year due to a pretty dry market, the swingman managed to prove himself to teams that he can certainly function as an effective role player who doesn’t only put up good numbers on bad teams.
The way his deal was configured, however, makes it a bit of a long shot for him to remain in Philly. While the 76ers would certainly want him back (disclaimer: they already said so), they don’t have full control over his destiny, and it’s probable that another team would want to make a play for him as a low-risk, high-reward, medium-scale signing in free agency.
The 76ers, which enjoyed Oubre’s steadiness as a constant tertiary scorer, should brace for his impending exit. Snagging a third star would be the quickest fix, but if they are unable to do that, they could be looking at a depleted forward rotation that badly needs playable bodies.
