In genuine avoidance of sounding like a broken record, the Philadelphia 76ers have had a hell of an offseason. The franchise, armed with a boatload of cap space ahead of the summer, made full use of every financial ammo they had and then some. As things currently stand, there's no other team who will merit a higher rating in this regard.
However, bet on the 76ers riding with their current deck at your peril. With the team having the composition of a bona fide title contender, Daryl Morey and the entire Philadelphia brass will not settle for less and jump at every opportunity to improve the roster, but it could come at the expense of these five players who may not finish the season with the team.
5. The clock for KJ Martin's stay with the 76ers is ticking
The 76ers front office may have turned in an A+ offseason, but there's still a pending motif from their summer escapades. Signing KJ Martin to a rather questionable two-year, $16 million deal was just a prelude to what should be a rabid pursuit for upgrades in the middle of the season.
Philadelphia has been reported to be on the lookout for another high-caliber rotation piece since the re-signing Martin as it intends to flip him and his contract to get into the market for players in the $8-12 million salary range. They could simply stay put with the young forward for the rest of the season, but attaching picks should set them up nicely for a trade.
No offense to Martin, who still touts promise as a Derrick Jones Jr. prototype, but barring a significant overhaul of his game and the forcible inclusion of any semblance of perimeter game, he's going to be a tough cookie to incorporate to the 76ers. Hence, the moment his trade restriction is lifted, his days in Philly will be numbered.
