4. Doug McDermott can bring much-needed emergency shooting to Philly
For an end-of-the-bench role, the 76ers can do with players who won’t be expected to log much court time, if at all, unless completely necessary. In that case, going after players with niche skill sets would be a savvy way to clarify roles while providing useful depth.
One area that the front office should augment is three-point shooting. And what better player to snag for the minimum than Doug McDermott, one of the league’s most accurate snipers for quite some time now?
A career 41 percent three-point shooter, McDermott is as pure as it can get when it comes to a marksman. Sure, he doesn’t provide anything aside from his shooting and off-ball movement and his defense is putrid at best, but having a solid veteran who knows where to be on the court and exploit sagging defenders would be a nice emergency asset to have.
