1. Bismack Biyombo carries functional center depth for the 76ers
Signing Andre Drummond, one of the league’s better backup centers, and drafting Adem Bona, a massive steal in the second-round, were both well-received moves from the 76ers brass. The team needed to overhaul its cushion behind Joel Embiid after the disasters that were Paul Reed and Mo Bamba last season, and they definitely heeded the call.
However, depth is sapped in the face of injuries, and at this juncture, it would be a wise proposition if the team expects Embiid to miss 10 games at the minimum. Thus, doubling down on depth at center should be a point of emphasis as they seek to improve the roster on the margins.
The front office could do much worse than, say, sign someone like Bismack Biyombo. A ferocious rebounder who is a good finisher around the rim and touts significant veteran experience. He won’t be playing much, if at all, but he can provide additional security at center for when Embiid rests or misses games.
