A former G League phenom and current EuroLeague top defender might be the back-up big 76ers need
Edy Tavares had an unbelievably short stint with the Atlanta Hawks during the 2015-16 season, but he became a G League star two years later. The center from Cape Verde was named the Best defender in the G League with the Raptors affiliated team and then made the jump to the EuroLeague powerhouse Real Madrid.
Playing for 7 seasons in Europe, Edy Tavares was the most feared rim protector in the league winning multiple defensive awards and a couple of titles in Madrid. The 7'3 big man might want to use the experience he had in the European level to find a role in the NBA this summer, as he will also be a free agent.
Tavares will be a lob threat in the NBA and a capable rim-protector and rebounder in the Philadelphia 76ers frontline. The Sixers will need to build a new roster with just two contracts actively remaining in the team this offseason. Tavares might want to try his luck in the league on a short term deal that will give the chance to Philly to remain financially flexible in the near future.
The Real Madrid man averaged 9.4 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 34 games during this season. The demand for him will be extremely high this summer considering that he's a 3-time EuroLeague Best Defender award winner, but if he wants to jump back to the NBA then Philly might want to take a look at him.
