One can make an argument about the Philadelphia 76ers touting the most talented roster in the entire association. Bannered by a perennial Most Valuable Player contender in Joel Embiid, the league’s Most Improved Player last season in Tyrese Maxey, and this time, a nine-time All-Star in Paul George, talent is clearly on an overflow for the franchise.
Entering the 2024-25 season, it’s too objective of a fact that the 76ers can win the championship to simply brush them aside in the spirit of fan-fueled hatred and recency bias. However, as with every other team with title aspirations, one also needs a bit of luck, especially on the health department. Alas, a team led by Embiid and George is probably walking on eggshells given their track record of injuries.
For now, though, it seems like everyone is higher than ever on the team’s chances at winning the championship next season.
Latest championship odds ranks 76ers as one of the NBA’s best teams
ESPN’s latest championship odds for the 2024-25 season has Philadelphia slotted in as third-most team behind Boston, the defending champion, and Oklahoma City, a team on a quick ascent.
Truthfully speaking, that is probably an appropriate estimation for the 76ers at this juncture. The team hasn’t played yet, but it certainly has the makings and stylings of a team that can trot out a hell of a regular season and a lengthy postseason run.
The Celtics are clearly the team to beat, while the Nuggets, Thunder, and Mavericks all have solid arguments of their own. Out in the East, the Knicks and Bucks also cannot be scoffed at given their elite crop of talent.
A lot, if not everything, will hinge on the 76ers stars’ ability to stay on the hardwood. After all, they do have a deep team, but such a depth will only be functional if not sapped while compensating for injured players. Nick Nurse has also proven himself as a great, tide-shifting tactician on both ends of the floor.
